while down with the most horrible nasty flu ever.
1. Husbands are great workers. Don’t let them fool you. They can vacuum, mop, do laundry, cook chicken noodle soup, grocery shop, wake up with the kiddos who need help in the middle of the night and still give lots of love. And I am not offended that he can’t wait to go back to work!
2. The kids can hear me when I whisper. This flu has caused me to loose my voice. I can’t speak above a quiet whisper. I have called my children by a whisper from a different room and they come. I have almost never had to repeat myself. It’s an amazing revelation. Louder is not better. In fact I notice they are more willing to be helpful when I have whispered. I don’t know how much is due to the fact that I am sick and they are just wanting to be nice to their mommy. Either way, this may change they way I parent to some degree.
3. Friends want to help. Let them. I have great friends and they are so helpful. It’s hard to let people help, even when they offer. But sometimes I think God lets us get down so He can use people to bless us, to serve us and make us feel loved. I’ve had friends bring meals to us, bring us much needed items from the store, pray for us, and call to check in. In the words of my hubby, “it’s a good thing you have friends”.
4. Part of what makes a sickness so difficult is when the house is dry and the throat and chest is dry. The cold days and heating system don’t actually help the home environment. Humidifiers only work in the room you are in, and with the door closed. Well hubby, brilliant man that he is found a great way to humidify the whole house in no time at all. While doing laundry (before turning dryer on) he detached the dryer vent. All that warm moist air was coming into the house. The windows fogged up and you can tell that it was working. So give that a try next time you have a sick house. Just don’t forget to put the hose back on when you are well.

The dryer vent idea is genius. And you’re right….ask for help if you need it. Why is it so hard for us sometimes?
*btw*we’re going on Carnival for a week to the Mexican Riviera. We’re pretty excited, as it’s 15 degrees right now outside. Maybe less now that it’s dark.
I own 2 tankinis as well, but I don’t love them. I’m going to bring the old trusty 1 piece boring navy blue tank too. It’s the actual swimming suit of the bunch. But I just like looking nice w/ my husband around, but it’s hard when you’re aiming for modesty. ’cause doesn’t it seem like nobody else cares about modesty these days?
that’s hard. Even if I had a hard bod and no stretch marks, I STILL would dress modestly. I’m just that way.
It’s totally nice to read all of your comments about feeling the same way. It makes me happy.
At the HOPE group on Monday Rebecca mentioned you were sick with the flu. I hope you are recovering now.

Oh poor you! I’ll be praying for you. You need to go to http://www.beeyoutiful.com and get some Supermom vitamins and some of the immune boosters — Berry Well, Bee Immune and some Rosehips C. I know, I know, it’s a holistic thing — but supplements sure help. I’m sure the stress of moving could be a contibuting factor. Consider this extra nap time.

P.S. Since you’re a tea drinker, you should try about 10 propolis drops (I think Beeyoutiful might have those too — or Glory Bee Foods has them, which is in your neck of the woods) in a mug of hot water with a teaspoon or two of honey. It’s sooo yummy and soothing and great for the immune system. I think I’m going to go make some.
P.P.S. I’m sure you know full well how to take care of yourself, I’m just one of those “once a mom, always a mom” type people who tend to give advice if I feel it will help.
What a bummer! It is the worst when momma gets sick.
We had an apartment once that didn’t have venilating for the dryer hose. We would get fogged up everytime I dried a load of laundry.
That is a smart idea though, when you are sick!
My mom has a website through godaddy. So I have been playing around with the wordpress on there. I wish I had the money to have my own site now! It’s a bit more complicated then the homeschool blogger templates. Alot more to it!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Susan,
The dryer vent is only good If you have an electric dryer. If it is a gas dryer you can be putting your family in danger of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning!
Most of us have electric, but for someone not knowing any better you might want to rephrase? I’m glad it worked for you, though!
