So I have a question for you all. If a person wants to pack up a house and get rid of objects no longer needed does he/she get rid of it before he/she fills a box to be moved? Or does one throw everything into the box, in order to have it moved to the new location and then get rid of what is not needed at the time of unpacking? Just taking a little poll. How would you do it?

I do both! Sort before I pack it up. And then reevaluate the item when I’m UNpacking.
I usually get rid of a lot of stuff when I’m packing- no reason to cart it all over to the new place only to have to get rid of it there! The bonus is that inevitably when I unpack I come across many more things to get rid of and think “Hmmm, just why did I save that?” I think it’s the beauty of simplifying and then simplifying again. Maybe I need to move, just because it would force me to go through and get rid of stuff!
I have found it easier to purge as I pack. I keep a couple of boxes handy to fill up and take to Goodwill. No sense moving more stuff than you have to. Besides, why pack it, unpack it and THEN get rid of it?
Blessings on your move and your new home!

I would definitely try to not cart it to the new house. But if carted to the new house then I would definitely go through each box slowly before you add things…I think I’m going to pretend we’re moving just so we can get more purged!Live simple would be nice
If it’s not a blessing to you in the old house, it’s really not going to be a blessing to you in the new house! If you have the time — the determining factor — to separate it and take it to a donations place, then do it. You will not regret it. And if there are things you aren’t sure about, then obviously hold on to them and decide later.
We purged a ton of stuff when we moved 2 years ago and we realize there’s still much more we can get rid of.

I’m the queen of moving. Three times…THIS year. So my opinion is to totally clean out the junk before you move. I had a garage sale and just went to Goodwill and gave stuff away. lots and lots of stuff.
have fun.
or not. (’cause it’s not fun to move)
It depends on how fast you gotta move!!!
If you do have a box set out near where you are packing, then it is no trouble to put it in there. The problem comes when you have to store these giveaway boxes in a special area so as not to mix with the packed stuff! Then there is the extra trip to the drop off location, which I hate.
From my experience three years ago where I packed up everything and moved thinking I would purge as I unpacked, I suggest purging while you pack. You will probably have more stuff to purge while unpacking even. I wish I had gotten rid of so much while preparing to move because I still have it all now.
I’m in the middle of moving right now actually (to be honest, I’m playing on the computer while I hide from my husband who is actually doing most of the moving…). I’ve decided to go through everything at the new house. You never know – the new house might really need Bulldog pom poms.
