This week I decided to take my cat into the vet for a check up. She had been losing weight and vomiting. I thought for sure something was wrong with her. I did not expect that she would have a mass in her intestines. After x-rays they found out that she had a large wad of what looked like rubber bands. So we elected to have them remove them. She is a healthy cat other than her appetite for things of the hair band/ribbon nature. Believe me when I say I would never have thought I could spend so much on a cat. However, my conscience would not let me have Lucy put to sleep. She is the best cuddly, people loving cat. In fact I am pretty sure she thinks she is part human, which is fine by me. (My other cat thinks she is a dog.) Well, what would you do if you were faced with a decision like this?

i did not need to hear that. couldn’t you have told me it was just worms? see, we have a cat who is also vomiting and losing weight and i do not want to take her to the vet. we do not love her that $$ much.
We would probably spend a certain amount of money, and then that’s it. We had a cat that stole Em’s hair ties and ate them. Yuck. That’s all I’ll say. Glad to hear that your kitty is doing better. We understand the desire to have a cuddly cat around the house.

We did spend all that money on our cat Cleavon years ago. He was a wonderful cat and lived a very full and loving life to 18 years. Some animals are just worth it!
Ummm… I’m not a big fan of cats. Unless it were a VERY beloved family pet that we all loved and cherished, we would spend maybe a very small amount. And then…you know…
I dare not say how small the amount, but trust me– we are definitely of the country mindset!

here at theMangoTimes…we would trade it in for a dog (or drop by the walmart parking lot on the way back from the vet…isn’t there always a family there giving away free kittens?).

I’d hide the rubber bands!
Hi Susan. I found your blog from your old blog (when you posted it on the e-mail loop we are both on).
Yes, I would have…I love my cats. We had something happen with one of our cats that was very expensive.
Now, if it had been one of our dogs…hmmmm.

As I said on the phone, I’d have done the same thing you did…and been sick to my stomach the entire time! But I couldn’t imagine the other option.
Well, when you put it like that…..I MIGHT have doled out the dough as well.
